Overview

Hulit is a partially terraformed terrestrial planet that is a global desert. It is a place of research and study.

History

House Perko placed the only life that subsists on the planet. There is a fragile ecology of bacteria and sand plankton.

The two most recent impact craters are the result of a collaboration with House Anson to collide comets with Hulit to deliver water. Cyanobacteria litter the impact sites.

The Perkos have used Hulit as a testing ground for terraforming technologies for centuries.

Environment

The planet is monitored from an orbital station House Perko bought from House Anson, the Hulit Research Station. The planet is partially terraformed but it is far too dry and barren to support humans.

Ecology

The only life that exists here was introduced by human scientists over a period of many centuries. A specially designed cyanobacterium oxygenates the atmosphere. They are concentrated around the two cometary impact sites but they are dying out as the water disperses. Sand plankton from Arrakis barely survive. Evolutionary pressures have changed it, forcing the organism to adapt to the much more arid environment.

There is not enough water on Hulit to allow sand trout to survive. Initial attempts to introduce them failed almost immediately. A second attempt to introduce them at sites of cometary impacts was more successful but still failed.

Research is ongoing to discover what happened to the planet's water. This is still a mystery with no viable explanation, even after centuries of investigation.

Hulit Research Station

Overview

Hulit Research Station is a permanently crewed station in orbit around the planet Hulit. It is owned and run by House Perko, largely built by and bought from House Anson.

Officially, it is conducting research into terraforming techniques on the planet but its true mission is to turn Hulit into a new Arrakis and a second source of melange. It is partially funded by the Spacing Guild's Arrakeen Fauna division, which has scientists stationed onboard.
